The Most Essential Routine for Hair Loss

Stopping and in some cases reversing hair loss is about more than just one product, tackling your hair loss is often about a hair loss regime that involves the use of multiple products. Here is a brief review of the four most common and widely used treatments for hair loss. These are the four main products that I personally use in my hair loss regiment.

FINASTERIDE (also known as Propecia)

What is it?

Finasteride is a prescription drug that usually comes in 5 mg pill form and it is taken orally once a day. A doctor may ask you to start at 5 mg until the immediate hair loss is halted and then ask you to cut the pill into 4 (with a pill cutter) to bring the daily dose down closer to 1 mg.

How does it work?

Because dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the primary reason for hair loss in men, using a prescription like Finsteride to block it is the most effective way to stop hair loss. Finasteride stops the human body from converting testosterone into (DHT). DHT is a sex hormone that binds to the receptors in your hair folicles and makes them shrink and eventually fall out.

It is extremely important that women (especially pregnant women) and children to not consume Finasteride

NIZORAL

What is it?

Nizoral (Ketoconazole) is a shampoo that is typically used as an antifungal (dandruff) shampoon, yet has also been found to be effective in the treatment of hair loss in both men and women. The shampoo can be used once daily in place of your regular shampoo.

How Does it Work?

Nizoral works by blocking the enzyme 5AR, which is responsible for converting testosterone into DHT. This is similar to finasteride, and in studies, 2% ketoconazole shampoo has been found to improve the proportion of anagen follicles similarly to finasteride. Nizoral is also effective in treating scalp dandruff as well.

MINOXIDIL

What is it?

Minoxidil is a topical solution that comes in either foam or liquid form and is used to help hair growth for those suffering from pattern baldness. The solution is applied directly to the affected area, twice per day.

How does it work?

Minoxidil is considered a type of drug called a vasodilators, which acts to open blood vessels, thus allowing more blood, oxygen and also nutrients to be delivered to the hair follicles.

LASER LIGHT TREATMENT

What is it?

Low-level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is the use of red or near-infrared laser light to promote the regrowth of hair. Most devices produce light in the 500-1100 nm wavelength. Devices include things like the laser comb and also various other helmet applications.

How does it work?

LLLT works by stimulating scalp tissue with low level laser light, thus encouraging weakened cells to grow hair. The process works to increase circulation and encourage dormant hair follicles to start growing hair again.
